Farmers markets have become a staple for bridging the gap between rural and urban communities. Chris Curtis started the UDistrict Farmers Market in 1993 on a whim, a spontaneous decision with her husband as a way to give back to the community and take their lives in a new direction. The market now sees over half a million shoppers a year, and Curtis has gone on to open six other neighborhood markets, several of which are open year round.
